The novel nano MoVNbOx composite oxides catalysts are widely used in the oxidative dehydrogenation reaction of lactic acid to produce pyruvic acid, which provides a green catalytic conversion alternative to the traditional dehydration and decarboxylation technology of tartaric acid. In the tartaric acidtechnology, the utilization efficiency of raw material is only 50-55%, while the per pass conversion is 60-65% with the yield of pyruvic acidabove 93% in the catalytic reaction of lactic acid over MoVNbOx composite oxides. More importantly, the unreacted lactic acid can be recycled for the further reaction, which results in high utilization efficiency of raw material. Additionally, the MoVNbOx composite oxides catalysts can also be used in the low-temperature oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to synthesis ethylene as an alternative of traditional  naphtha cracking technology, thus realizing a green catalytic process of ethylene production. Compared with the traditional catalysts used at 800 ℃, the application of novel nano MoVNbOx composite oxides catalysts reduces the reaction temperature at 300℃, resulting in friendly reaction conditions, low energy consumption and high safety factor of production.

The application of novel nano MoVNbOx composite oxides catalystscan provide technical innovation and technological modification for the production of pyruvic acid and ethylene, (i) innovate the production technology of pyruvic acid in China and (ii) provide technical support for future China's ethylene industryin order to catch up with the development of the world's chemical processin the new situation of energy development.
